THE TOWN IS THE GALLERY

Group Exhibition at
Convenience Gallery
July 26th - August 30th

‘PALMS’ was selected for the TTITG 2024 Open Exhibition. Made using enlarged photographs of my own hands image transferred onto fabric and then hand stitched and stuffed as part of my ‘POLKA DOTS AND PALMS’ work for my installation ROOTS!

The use of hands within this work was to highlight the ever present connection to my mother, who’s hands I always see when I look down at my own (which is most of the time). I have noticed my mum often hates openly on her hands, but these were the hands that held me as a child and that, even now as an adult, comfort me when I need most. I love the hands my mum has as I love my own. “The hand has long been thought of as a conduit of power – transforming unseen energy into the world of form!” The use of the hand - the great tool bar the brain to create - is symbolic here, recalling too ideas involving palmistry!

Photography by Benjamin Nuttall.
